ASQS warmly welcomes the Norwegian University of Tromsø School of Aviation as our newest customer.

The University of Tromsø School of Aviation (UTSA) is based at Bardufoss Airport and forms part of the Department of Engineering Science and Safety at the University of Tromsø, also known as the Arctic University of Norway (UIT).

Established in 2008, the School of Aviation is currently Norway's only state-funded aviation programme and the only one in the north leading to a university degree besides a CPL certificate. UTSA’s fleet currently consists of six robust Cessna 182T Skylanes, three Piper PA31 Navajos and an Alsim ALX generic flight simulator.

Studying at the northernmost university of the world trains students to operate in the most challenging and contrasting light and weather conditions. The Aviation Academy consequently faces extensive risks in its daily operations, which requires a special consideration of safety matters and underlines the importance of integrating safety education within the curriculum.

By implementing IQSMS, the flight school takes an important step forward in optimizing its safety and risk management. Risks can be identified and assessed early on, which in turn leads to a faster adaption and further mitigation of possible incidents and hazards. Furthermore, students get the possibility to practice and become accustomed to the use of safety management systems, which fosters the development of a sound safety culture among future pilots.
